Fire Cider Recipe

When I attended the Sonoran Herbal Institute in 2001 I was introduced to this tonic as it was one of the remedies we made in class.

I have used it almost every year since and it is a super effective winter time tonic to prevent illness and help decrease the time of colds and the flu as well as other respiratory ailments. It is a wonderful and tasty way to boost your immunity.

To make this tonic you will need a clean glass jar, cheesecloth, a rubber band and the following herbs and ingredients;

Ginger-1 small piece, grated (about 1/2 c.)

Garlic- 5-6 cloves (peeled and minced)

Horseradish- 1 small piece grated (about 1/2  c.)

1 onion- chopped

Cayenne- 1 tsp.

Apple cider vinegar - 3 cups

Honey- to taste

Put all the plant matter in a jar and cover with apple cider vinegar (save honey for later). Let this concoction sit for about 4 weeks or so in a cool, dry spot. (A cupboard is an ideal place) Shake the mixture once daily if you are able.

After 4 weeks strain the plant matter out through cheesecloth and reserve the liquid portion.

Sweeten with honey and keep in a jar in the fridge.

This tonic is wonderful used as a salad dressing or you can just take a couple of teaspoons daily. Taken as a tonic over several weeks/months it will help boost your immunity as well as very effective to take for colds, the flu, bronchitis and laryngitis.
